It's been over a year since I bought new running shoes, so this week I bought a new pair of Asics. Ares and I decided to try them out this morning.
We started a little late as I decided to try to sleep in (after getting up early and feeding the animals). We started out our usual Riverside route, forgetting that YMCA soccer has started. The park was packed and the road was busy! So we went out Jefferson after finishing with Riverside, and we turned left at the church instead of turning around. It was the opposite direction, but basically the same run as the "back way to the high school".
We didn't see much wildlife. As we were crossing the Jefferson Street bridge, Ares and I both heard some birds on our left and turned to look. I turned back to watch where we were going, and luckily Ares didn't, or he would have chased after the black cat that ran across the street in front of us. There were a few walkers and bikers out.
All and all it was an OK run. The new shoes worked out well. My knee hurts, but I think the new shoes help reduce the strain. Now I need to go back and get a second pair.
We ended up with 3.80 miles. As I am recovering from being sick, I didn't want to push it too much anyway.

Short run, Short blog
I didn't plan to run this morning, but Curt PROMISED Ares I would take him for a run. So what started off as a walk turned into a run. We did just the Riverside loop with a quick trip by the video store. And of course we did the sprint up the hill. We saw two other dogs with their owner, and they wanted to be friends. I took Ares toward the dogs to meet them, but he was afraid (it was dark). We'll try again some other time, as they live in the neighborhood.
We ran about 3 miles.

Saturday Morning
I haven't been running -- knee problems again. But today it is such a beautiful day, so Ares and I decided to try it.
We started a little later than usual, but it was still nice and cool. We went the Riverside loop with a little extension out Jefferson, and of course did the sprint up the hill at the end.
The only wildlife we saw was geese -- and they were all over the place! Ares wanted to chase them, but I managed to hold him back. He also wanted to visit with all the children playing soccer at Riverside Park, but I made him run.
It wasn't a bad run. We ended up with just over 3.5 miles. My knee hurts, but maybe that's just something I'm going to have to live with.

Short Unplanned Run
Due to the injuries I've had this year, I had decided that I would not run two days in a row. Well, this morning, after being awake most of the early morning, I figured I might as well get up. I decided a short run would be OK.
I fed the dogs and cats and got ready to go. Ares was a little unsure. He lagged behind at the beginning where he usually is sprinting. Finally he started running. We went the short Riverside loop with a few detours, and ended with the usual sprint up the hill. Towards the end Ares didn't want to run, so I ended up pulling him some!
We didn't see any wildlife, but I'm sure it was out there. By one dark field, Ares started pulling and wanted to go explore. I could tell he was on the scent of something. It was a little bit disconcerting. It was probably a deer, but in the darkness I was imagining something more dangerous.
It was a short run -- only 2.65 miles, but not bad for an unplanned run. My knee started to hurt towards the end, so we didn't push it at all.

Mid Week Run
I FINALLY was able to get in a mid-week run. I wanted to sleep in a bit (meaning until 5:30 a.m.), but the sound of the chainsaw, I mean Curt snoring, kept me awake, so finally I figured I might as well do something useful.
Ares was glad to get out for a run. It is a foggy morning. He doesn't like the dark, and I discovered he really, really doesn't like the dark when it is foggy. Several times he slowed when we came by a bush or a tree.
We didn't see any wildlife, but I'm sure it was out there. We heard some frogs as we ran a bit in Riverside Park. We didn't see any other runners. I guess even most runners are smart enough to stay off the roads when it is dark and foggy. But it was a nice, cool morning, perfect for running (except that my glasses kept fogging up).
Anyway, we got in a decent run. We ended up with almost 3.7 miles. We would have gone longer, but I thought I needed to get the kids up for school. Alas, there is a two hour delay.

Sunday Morning Run
Wow, it's been more than a week since I've run. It's been a difficult week, getting used to the new work schedule and the fact I have to go into the office now, and getting used to the family's school schedule. Yesterday I was busy with our porch sale, so today it the first chance I've had to run. I have been taking the dog for long walks, though, so that is something.
Today started out nice and cool. Ares and I went the "extended" Riverside loop, and of course we finished with the sprint up the hill by the house. We ran most of the time with a few walk breaks. Ares actually got tired before I did! We saw a few people walking their dogs, and one other runner. This was a high school or possibly early college age kid. And as he passed us, he said "hello Ma'am" -- boy, did I feel old! Well, I guess I am over 50 now.
I felt pretty good after the run. My knee bothered me a bit while mowing the lawn last night, but it held up OK with the running. I need new shoes though -- maybe a trip to Toledo is warranted in the next few weeks.
