Blah Blah

Another boring post. These are mainly for me, anyway. It's been too hot for any interesting wildlife, although this morning I did see a pair of yellow finches.

It's hot, humid, and I needed to get home before the predicted storms (yet again) hit us this morning. I ran 4.55 miles. At least I'm sticking to the "almost every day" run. In a week or so, I'll start trying to step up the mileage, if the humidity lessens a bit!

This will get boring

My runs have been pretty non-eventful lately. But, I have been able to go for a run three days in a row -- so I think I'm finally getting back on track. Today was the usual high school/Ginter Road/Riverside loop. My time was a little slow -- that happens when you try to talk on the phone while running! I ended up with just over 5.6 miles. It was hot, but it felt good. I always sleep so well after an early evening run.

I'll keep posting in the blog just to keep my incentive going, and maybe one of these days something exciting or different will happen again! I don't think anyone really reads these, anyway.

Great Hot Run

It was a hot day today. But, I wanted, no I NEEDED a run. So, off I went about an hour after work.

I went the usual route (I need to start changing things up a bit) - the back way to the high school, Ginter Road, and back to the Riverside loop, with one extra SHORT loop around my block.

I ended up with about 5.82 miles. I wanted to get 6 miles in, but the heat and the s'more I ate before the run (the worst idea I've ever had) said STOP when I ran by the house the second time, intending to go another loop or two.

Well, that's two days in a row. Maybe I can make it three!

Another short run

We've had a series of thunderstorms today, but I tried to get in a short run tonight between the storms. It would have been longer, but I stopped to talk to some friends I hadn't seen in a while.

I did the usual run out to the high school (well, not quite there because the sky started getting dark), then back and finished the Riverside loop. I only did 4 miles, but at least it was something.

I'm going to try to step up my runs a bit -- first by running more often, then increasing the mileage again on some runs. I miss those 10+ mile runs -- I really do!

Storms are coming. Time to get off the computer.

Great morning to run

Today was a great morning to run. The air was slightly cool, not too humid, and the sun was just coming up. It was the perfect morning to go for one of those long runs I enjoy. Unfortunately, my ankle is still a little stiff so I had to take it easy.

I just ran out to the high school and back, finishing up via Riverside. On the way to the high school, I saw a deer and two fawns. I tried to get a picture with my cell phone, but just as I was snapping the picture, a car drove by and they ran off into the woods.

My ankle managed to hold up OK (I did have to walk some of the time), and I ended up with 4.4 miles. It is a little stiff and sore now, so I'm going to not push the runs for a few days to give it some more time to hear. Darn bouncy balls!

Defiance River Run

Well, I wasn't sure how well this run was going to turn out. Last night, while carrying a laundry basket, I stepped on one of those little "bouncy balls" and twisted my ankle. I took some ibuprofen and kept it elevated.

Today was the race. The first part of the race took us through some muddy, pothole-filled section, but after that it was city roads. And, for once, I didn't have to wait at any streets for cars to pass.

My ankle hurt a little bit, but by the end of the first mile it was just numb. I ended up coming in second in my age group. I was just a little slower than my race 2 weeks ago -- 27:25 (two weeks ago it was 27:11). I feel good about the run -- I was able to run relatively well in spite of my ankle. I don't have any races scheduled for later this summer, but I think I'll need to find one or two just to keep myself motivated.

Also running in the race were some of my husband's cousins, his niece and nephew, their cousins, wives, boyfriends, etc. Four of us ended up placing. One placed 3rd in her age group, another placed 3rd in his age group, Ryan placed second in his age group, and I placed second in mine. It was a good showing for the family, but most of all we had fun!

Now it's time for a great brunch with the family.

Hot, hot run

I just got back from a hot, afternoon run. There was very little wind, either. I know it's crazy to run in the afternoon, but I have no other time today. I'm trying another 5K on Friday, so I don't really want to run tomorrow. I usually try to take a day off before a run.

Anyway, I did my usual Jefferson Ave/Ginter Road/Riverside loop. I tried to run some faster short sprints to get my heart rate up, and then walk to bring it back down. It seemed to work pretty well. I needed a slightly different workout today.

I ended up with 5.55 miles. Not too bad in this heat, I don't believe. I didn't see much of any wildlife, though. The animals know enough to stay out of the heat!
