Saturday Morning Run

It's been another rough week, so Ares and I knew we needed a run this morning. It was a little cool, a little damp, but not a bad morning for a run.

We did the Riverside loop with a little extension out Jefferson, and of course we ended with a sprint up the hill by the house.

When we got to the end of Riverside Avenue, by Horace Street, we spotted two white tails bouncing in the field. It was two fawns (almost grown). I think it was the two we have seen several times this summer with their mother. Ares wanted to run after them, and he was upset when I wouldn't let him.

We ended up with 3.25 miles. I'm not building up my mileage like I wanted to, but at least I'm getting some runs in. And I've gotten some long walks in this week. One was without Ares -- I got parked in at the high school football game on Thursday night, and walked the 2+ miles home.

Changes and Baby Steps

There are so many changes going on right now. Today is the first day of school for Christopher, Kate, and Christian. Earl started back Monday at Oxford (he moved over a week ago). I now have to work from the office, which means driving to Archbold every day. Because of all of the things going on, I have changed my work schedule to 8:30 - 4:30 so I can be here in the morning to get everyone off to school. The good news about that is it should make it easier to get up an run in the morning. I would have to be out and about by 4 a.m. if I was on my old schedule. I think I will be able to start by 5 or 5:15 (when my mileage is back to where I want it and I'm running for about an hour) and get home to get my turn at the shower, and then still have time to peacefully help everyone get out the door in the morning!

Today I have a day off (I always take the day off the first day of school) so it's not a typical day, but still ...

Back to the running blog now. I am back to slowly building up mileage again. It is going to be a long process. Every time I increase, even just a little bit, health issues start getting in the way. So we are going to stick with between two and three miles for a bit and see what happens. I am taking Ares for a walk every evening, too, and we try to go for two miles, or close to it.

Ares and I got up and were off by 5:20 this morning. We ran the Riverside loop, with an additional small loop to get two sprints up the hill. We ended up with just over 2.4 miles (I accidentally turned off my Garmin so I don't have the exact mileage). The only wildlife we saw was a rabbit, but I think Ares caught the scent of a few along the way.

Saturday Morning Run

It was a nice, cool morning. Ares and I started out for a nice run. We both needed it after the week we've had.

We did the normal Riverside loop, with an extension out Jefferson, just to Ginter Road. We saw one other runner. There were several people out walking their dogs. Other than that, we saw no other wildlife.

I am gradually trying to increase my mileage. We ended up with just over 3 miles today.

Getting There

Some of my "issues" cropped up after running two days in a row last week, so I took a few days off. At least this time it's not injuries or muscle strains, so as soon as we get the other stuff figured out I'll be back to full speed.

Today Ares and I started off around 6:00 a.m. I was surprised at how dark it still was. Ares does NOT like the dark, so I had a hard time getting him started. Once we got going, though, he enjoyed himself. We saw one other runner, a few moths, and not much else.

We ran the Riverside loop with the sprint up the hill. Then I wanted to go just a bit further, so we went another block and then another sprint up the hill. We ended up with 2.75 miles. I'd like to get up to three this weekend, and then four, etc., but I have to watch how it affects things.

Two Days in a row

I felt pretty good all day yesterday, so I decided to try another run this morning. I'm keeping them short and will try to very gradually build up.

Ares and I started out around 8:30 this morning, and did the Riverside Loop with the sprint up the hill. This is the same route we took yesterday, 2.2 miles. It was a good run, although again it was quite warm by the time we finished. We didn't see any wildlife beyond the usual squirrel and butterfly. Ares likes to chase the butterflies.

So, I will probably not run tomorrow, and then if all is well continue running around 2 miles most days next week. I'm just glad to be started again.

Starting Again

So, I'm cleared to start running again -- slowly! Today I got up, and since I am taking a vacation day today, decided to try a short run.

It's a little warm out since Ares and I started a little later (around 8:15 a.m.). We did just the Riverside loop with the sprint up the hill. We went 2.2 miles, and most of it was running.

I am going to see how I feel the rest of the day. Hopefully things will be OK. Then, we will slowly build up our running yet again. At least we have been walking every day, so it's not a completely new start.

I didn't really stop running

For those few who follow my blog, you may have noticed there have been no blog postings in a week. I have not given up running. I'm having some physical issues (not running-related) so I have to take a break. I may be back running in a few days, or it may be a few weeks. But I will be back!

Glad to be Home

I got home last night from Columbus. I took Ares for a walk; I was too tired to run.

This morning we got up and around and went for a run. For some reason both of my knees were sore this morning, so we took it easy. Ares did NOT want to run. We ended up with the Riverside Loop, and most of the way to the high school and back (and of course the sprint up the hill). It was a combination of walking and running. I guess Ares rested too much this week! Towards the end he started getting some energy and wanted to run a bit. We ended up with 4.0 miles. It was not a good run, but it was better than not doing anything at all! Maybe tomorrow will be better.
